2024-25 NEWS
- Iowa kicks off the 2025 indoor track season following historic postseason success in 2024. On the men’s side, the Hawkeyes placed ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships with 21 points – good for the second-highest finish in school history. Iowa had four qualifiers and three first-team All-Americans, including returning sprinter, Kalen Walker.
- The women’s team placed third at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in 2024, matching the program’s best finish in school history. The Hawkeyes sent three qualifiers to the NCAA Indoor Championships, including returning hurdler, Paige Magee.
- Under the direction of associate head coach, Ray Robinson, the Hawkeyes return a strong throws group on both sides. Sean Smith leads the weight throw group and holds the program’s best mark, set at last season’s Big Ten Championships (22.28 meters). Austin Busch, Walker Whalen and newcomer Ryan Johnson contribute to a deep men’s throws group. Alivia Bauer and Wisdom Williams return to lead the women’s unit. Both Bauer (weight throw) and Williams (shot put) hold top five marks in program history.
- Daniela Wamokpego leads the women’s jumps group, building on a freshman campaign that saw her become a triple jump second-team All-American in 2024. A native of Meaux, France, Wamokpego holds Iowa’s school record (13.24 meters) set at last year’s Tyson Invite.
- Iowa will host four meets at the Hawkeye Indoor Track Facility in 2024-25. Following winter break, Iowa hosts the Hawkeye Invitational (Jan. 17-18), annual Larry Wieczorek Invitational (Jan. 24-25) & Multi and the Iowa Open (Feb. 21).

2023 JIMMY GRANT INVITE
Paige Magee and Kalen Walker posted school records at the 2023 Jimmy Grant Invitational. Magee’s 8.07 finish in the 60-meter hurdles tied the program best. She would later go on to finish sub-8.00 to update Iowa’s fastest time. Walker started his day with a school-record 6.60 in the preliminary round of the 60 meters. Before the ink dried on the new school record, Walker ran 6.59 in the finals to update it twice and win the title at the Jimmy Grant Invite. As a result and for the first time in program history, the Hawkeyes swept Big Ten Athlete of the Week honors following the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational. Magee and Walker, along with thrower Sean Smith and triple jumper Daniela Wamokpego, earned their respective honors. In total, Iowa made 11 updates to the all-time top-10 list, including times from returning sprinters Lia Love and Holly Duax.
THE WALKER & KRESLEY DUO
Three-time All-American and NCAA runner-up, Kalen Walker is primed for a standout fifth year with the Hawkeyes. Walker took silver in the 60 meters at the 2024 NCAA Championships (6.59). At the Jarvis Scott Open, Walker set a school record of 6.51, which holds as the program’s top time heading into 2025. He was also the B1G runner-up in the 60 meters, matching his school record in the prelims. Walker claimed victories at both the Black & Gold and Jimmy Grant Invites in the 60 meters, setting meet and then-school record times. Alongside Walker, Austin Kresley is aiming to bounce back from an injury. Kresley holds the second all-time best time in the 60 meters at Iowa with a time of 6.64. Looking ahead to the 2025 season, Khullen Jefferson and Joe Stein are two Hawkeyes to watch in the sprints unit.
PAIGE NOTES
Senior Paige Magee set a school record in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships, becoming the first Hawkeye to run sub-eight. Magee raced 7.99 in the prelims, tying for the best time in the Big Ten and seventh nationally. Magee placed second in the finals at the conference meet, contributing to 22 points across three events (2nd in 60mH, 2nd in 4x400m, 3rd in 200m). Magee earned a bid to the NCAA Championships, where she was a second-team All-American in the 60-meter hurdles. Prior to last season, the Iowa record stood at 8.07, which Magee busted on three occasions. Heading into 2025, Natalie Harris and Ellie Rickertsen are Hawkeyes to watch in the hurdles unit.
THE BOOKIN-NOSBISCH CLUB
Twins Alli and Grace Bookin-Nosbisch have spilled serious ink in the annals of the Iowa record book. Alli sits atop the indoor 800 meters column with her 2:03.42 set at the Tyson Invite a season ago; she bettered her own record twice during indoor season. Grace ranks seventh in the same category with a 2:07.21 set in 2024. In the indoor distance-medley relay, the duo shares real estate on the top line. Both were members of the 11:15.07 school-record team at Big Tens last season. In the outdoor 800 meters, Alli ranks second with a time of 2:04.37, with Grace one step behind in fourth at 2:05.49. Both marks were set in 2023. The Hawkeyes return a veteran, upperclassmen core of women’s middle distance runners, including Gabby Cortez, Jaiden Itson and Lily Johannes.
MULTI-IMPACT OF CAPALDO & WIRTH
Junior Sal Capaldo recorded a collegiate-best 5,279 points in the heptathlon at the B1G Championships in 2024, ranking sixth all-time at Iowa. On the women’s side, sophomore Annie Wirth led the pack with a collegiate-best 3,870 points at the Big Ten Championships, which also ranks sixth all-time at Iowa. Wirth holds Iowa’s fourth best mark in the high jump (1.79 meters), set at the Big Ten Championships. Led by coach Hadrien Choukroun, the multis unit enters the season with a talented group of young athletes. Hawkeyes to watch include returners Precious Irivi, Carlee Rochford, Maud Zeffou-Poaty and Daniela Wamokpego.
HAWKEYE HISTORY AT NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS
Iowa men’s track and field completed the second-highest finish in program history at NCAA Indoor Nationals last season. Seniors Rivaldo Marshall, Kalen Walker and Austin West were each first-team All-Americans. Walker, an Indian Hills product, added eight points with a runner-up finish in the 60 meters. The Eddyville, Iowa, native raced 6.59 to finish one-hundredth of a second ahead of Texas Tech’s Don’Dre Swint in third place. Walker, who entered the season as a two-time All-American second teamer, was just five-hundredths of a second behind event champion Terrence Jones. In the heptathlon, West tacked on three more team points; his 3,309 heptathlon points were just 75 points shy of his personal best. Senior Grant Conway was a second-team All-American in the 60-meter hurdles, placing 15th with a 7.81 mark.
